This painting was inspired by a very potent and unrelenting dream. It speaks of transformation and rebirth by metaphorical fire. I was thinking a lot about transformation through deep looking and meditation, and haunted by the idea of self-immolation in Buddhism as a form of extreme political protest against major injustices. The title, “All That Remains”, refers to what is left in spirit when the body is transcended.

The painting is 30” x 22.25”, Oil on paper. Arches Oil Paper is archival and makes for a unique painting surface with a beautiful deckled edge, which can be highlighted in the framing process.
