Born from the head, as Athena— When split open, what springs forth? A blown fuse, circuit breaker, scalpel, shutters, overloaded electrical socket, something fleshy.  This painting was created as an exorcism, a way of bringing dark and complicated things out into the light to be named and therefore purged and dispelled. Broad sweeping gestures move quickly through the background of the painting, adding a sense of cyclical chaos and turmoil to the work.  The figure is semi-transparent while the black shadow hovering above their head is opaque and palpable, seemingly draining the color out of the figure’s face and body- presumably to return after the shadow has disapparated.

This painting is 30” x 22.25”, Oil on paper. Arches Oil Paper is archival and makes for a unique painting surface with a beautiful deckled edge, which can be highlighted in the framing process.
