This painting was created from my research and explorations into the intersection of Buddhism, cognitive neuroscience, and neuroplasticity. Ideas of embodied cognition and extended mind theory were how I viewed the process of creating paintings before I had the terms to explain the experience of creating objects that functioned as extensions of the mind itself. With painting there is a process of deep looking that is akin to meditation, which sometimes allows a painting to function like a mirror. Sometimes, recently, when I look in the mirror, this is what I see: Layers of shedding and transformation.

The painting is 30” x 22.25”, Oil on paper. Arches Oil Paper is archival and makes for a unique painting surface with a beautiful deckled edge, which can be highlighted in the framing process.
