Slings and Arrows

$2,300.00

The Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade felt like an attack on women, a violation of personal health privacy, and a rejection of bodily autonomy. The title of this painting, “Slings and Arrows”, is a phrase taken from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, and arguably his most famous soliloquy. The full expression “to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” describes misfortunes that happen in life that are out of our own control, that come as consequence without cause or reason. This painting represents that attack on a woman’s right to choose, and the feelings that accompany it.

Oil on panel, 30” x 24”, 2022.
